RE: Canadians paying at pump via credit card

I think the zip code needs to match the billing address of the card; something a thief may not know. You got it!!! But I don't know how you could put in a number from Canadian Post

RE: HOLY COW! WOOOO HOOOO

The average for 87 octane in Buffalo is $2.67. You don't want to know what I'm paying for diesel. At least it isn't 4.99 anymore!

RE: furnace thermostat

Here is a link for the famous Walmart Hunter thermostat into RV from this site. http://home.roadrunner.com/~morodat/hunter_install.html, and if your run into problems, click on this one, http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21632246.cfm. If you run into more problems, do a search using "Hunter Thermostat". You can purchase the thermostat at any Walmart. Oh, you can even control your Air Conditioner with one of these! And the nice part is all the instructions are right here on the rv.net forum. Oh, hope it is just the thermostat and not the furnace. Been troubleshooting mine all day and think I finally solved the problem:B:B:B!!!

RE: Dealer or Garage ?

Depends on what I getting done. Coach work calls for RV shop. Engine compartment and automotive related goes to local independent truck garage. The RV shop I go to has a upstanding reputation. The local truck garage is cheaper than GM dealer, and a expert on the 454. He also builds race engines. Has a big following.

RE: Tire Question?

mscamping, I don't need to go from an F rated to a G rated tire. I was just wondering why the Goodyear has a higher load rating than the same tire in the Michelin? I will probably stay with the Goodyear tire. Thanks for the response RamblerBecause that is how the Goodyear and Michelin tire engineers rated their respective tires. If you want a answer, you would need to ask them. It is in the ply rating, the sidewall rating and the rubber compound, and maybe even the carbon black.

RE: lap top computers

My next laptop will be a Panasonic Toughbook. I am tired of worrying about the computer getting dropped, bumped, scratched, or something spilled on it. These things come with 3 year warranties. My current Dell Inspiron has 2 missing keys, a scratch on the display and an intermittent display problem with tiny red dots all over it which started happening after it was dropped from about 1 foot on a carpeted floor. A Toughbook would have survived all of this abuse unscathed. They are not inexpensive, but they are worth the extra cost IMHO. Panasonic Toughbook website: http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/toughbook-products.asp Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panasonic_Toughbook Note the testing section where they tested a Toshiba of similar specification (meaning a ruggedized laptop) and the Toshiba failed while the Panasonic Toughbook still worked.I picked up a used CF-48. Very dependable laptop. Needs more memory. Will have to get someone to work on that for me.

RE: Taking Potted plants along

My concern would be the Dept of Agriculture, even at state level. I think that they could be impounded at a international crossing if they were inquired about. They can impound anything they want within 100 miles of the border. Better they impound the plants than you RV. Once saw a over the road tractor that had been impounded. It was not a pretty picture as they tore it apart. The transportation company wanted it back, and had a lawsuit against the government, but it was not doing well.

RE: 5th wheel break-in, almost stripprd

Kasbah, Make a police report, then let your insurance company handle it. They will deal with the storage facility and it's insurance carrier. Let us know how you make out.

RE: Extra LP tank questions

Those exchange deals are very expensive...you pay for convenience...even at places like Walmart! But you can buy a brand new tank at Walmart inside the store - usually at the garden center.

RE: SnowBirds Virgnia Beach ???

It can get extremely cold in Virginia Beach and surrounding area, and snow too! That cold off the ocean goes straight thru you and feels colder that it really is.

RE: to Florida by 79 and then 77 and then to 95?

One question; how do you drive without supervision?I sometimes wonder, cause I am a retired driver/driver trainer from one of the oldest petroleum transportation companies in the US.

RE: Hercules tires

All I know about Hercules Tire is that they manufactured a really decent light truck traction tire that was marketed in Pa and NY. Had a very big following in northern Pa.

RE: Is Fill-R-Up for Storage Really Important

Seafoam. Sta-Bil Fuel Stabilizer (Sta-Bil), works very well and might be a bit cheaper. You can get it just about anywhere. Oh, yes a fill up is always important. Whether you are putting it in storage or traveling. If you only fill to 2/3 of a tank, you stand the chance of condensation taking place and contamination of you fuel.

RE: Is Fill-R-Up for Storage Really Important

Gasoline typically goes bad in 30 days. Diesel gets algea growing in it is water gets in.I've seen it stored in tanks well over 30 days at the refinery before being shipped out to stations with no decrease in octane or performance. And algea is rare in diesel, usually happens in marine diesel environment, but needs more that just water. I seen diesel in storage for years, back in the shortage days of the late '70s. I always loved those people who followed me into the station waiting for me to start unloading just so they could get "fresh gas", and stood there watching them pump all that cr*p, including water, from the bottom of the storage tanks into their vehicle. There is often water on the bottom of storage tanks at stations. It is below the pump intake and only gets mixed into the gas or diesel when a transport is dropping the load. About 45 minutes to a hour later it will seperate and drop to the bottom.

RE: is full charge 13.8V?

"Lead acid wet cell - about 2.14 volts per cell (12.6 to 12.8 for a 12 volt battery) when fully charged" according to my sources. But I believe there are a lot of inaccurate voltage meters out here.

RE: Water pump issue

You should have 12 volt fuses at the converter, or are they all circuit breakers now. Check and see if one of them is for the pump. Also, I think there is a check valve between the two water systems. That could go bad too. Have you talked to anyone at Tiffin yet? Give them a call and they will guide you in troubleshooting it. You might have to leave a message and your number, but they will call back promptly.
